Chiefs Announcements

 

New Faculty

Jeffrey Teuteberg, MD was appointed to Associate Professor (Cardiovascular Medicine) on July 1, 2017. Dr. Teuteberg is board certified in Cardiology and Heart Failure and Transplantation. He is currently the Section Chief of Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support. He sees patients both in the clinic and in the hospital with advanced heart failure and who have received cardiac transplantation or mechanical circulatory support. His research interests are in clinical outcomes in patients after transplant and mechanical support as well as novel approaches to immunosuppression. He has participated in many single-center and multi-institutional research studies and has published widely in the fields of transplant and mechanical support. He will serve as President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2018.

New Staff

Nathan D'Emilio, Clinical Research Coordinator is supporting Dr. Khush with her studies in genome transplant dynamics (GTD) and using cell-free DNA to study the relationship between transplantation, immunity, and cancer. Nathan started on July 3rd.

 

Jennifer Wylie, Clinical Research Coordinator is supporting Dr. Marco Perez with several studies including GenePool, LIVE-HCM/LQTS, and the AGENT database. Jennifer started on July 24th.

 

Steve Hershman, Director of mHealth is supporting Drs. Ashley, Quertermous, Yeung and any other individuals at Stanford interested in using mobile health to better understand or manage health and disease. Steve started on August 14th.

 

Roshini Kingsley, Accountant 1 supports the Finance Team with Grants Management. Roshini started on August 14th.

 

Warren Van Brunt, Lab Manager is supporting Dr. Stanley Rockson. Warren started on August 14th.

 

Jennifer Shearer, Clinical Research Coordinator is supporting Dr. Rajesh Dash with Stanford South Asian Translational Heart Initiative (SSATHI) studies. Jennifer started on September 18th.

Christy Sillman is the nurse coordinator for the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Stanford, a joint program with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford University Medical Center. Christy was born with a type of congenital heart disease known as tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, and she works to bring awareness to the lifelong care needs for all congenital heart disease patients.

A New Heart Disease Test Flings Color Genomics Into A Battle About Genetics In Medicine

Color Genomics, a Burlingame, Calif.-based startup that has made a name for itself by selling tests for genes that dramatically raise the risk of cancer, is moving into a new area: heart disease. In doing so, it is stepping even more deeply into a raging debate over the medical and economic value of plumbing our DNA.

 

JAMA Publication Creates Significant Buzz About Familial Hypercholesterolemia

When assistant professor Joshua Knowles, MD, PhD (cardiovascular medicine), identifies a patient with familial hypercholesterolemia, that discovery marks the beginning of a hunt. Even as the new patient undergoes treatment to reduce levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and stave off early atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a search gets underway for family members...
